Rebuilding the PodcastOne Brand and App – A Strategic Pivot

Company: SCA
Project: PodcastOne Native App and Brand
Role: Product & Brand Design Lead, Design Systems, User Testing & Research

In the second iteration of the PodcastOne app, we brought native development in-house to rebuild the platform from the ground up. Originally developed for a different purpose, the app was repurposed during COVID, maximizing existing work rather than discarding it.

Modular, Re-Branded, Re-Used

Rather than starting from scratch, we strategically repurposed the existing PodcastOne app, originally built for a different purpose. By maximizing previous development work while introducing a modular framework, we accelerated the rebuild and ensured the platform could evolve alongside shifting business needs. The app was rebranded to reflect its new direction while maintaining continuity for existing users.

Design System Re-Use – Speed and Consistency

To streamline development and maintain a cohesive experience, we leveraged an existing design system. Reusing established components allowed for rapid iteration, reducing design and engineering effort while ensuring a polished, consistent interface. This approach significantly cut down development time without compromising on quality or scalability.

New Owners, Same Name, New Look

With the company now fully owning the technology, we had the freedom to redefine the app’s visual and brand identity. A fresh look reinforced PodcastOne’s premium positioning in the Australian market, while UX enhancements improved discoverability and engagement. The transition maintained brand recognition while signaling a new era for the platform.

Built in Five Months, Ready for the Future

In just five months, we successfully rebuilt and relaunched PodcastOne, giving the company full control over its technology stack. This ownership allowed for greater agility, faster iteration, and the ability to pivot and scale as needed—positioning PodcastOne for long-term success in a competitive audio landscape.
